No ‘rubber’ components are required for Runflat CBR’s advanced beadlock
It is considered necessary for some utilising older technology that beadlock components should be made from rubber in order to cater for varying tyre bead thicknesses, however a fixed width rubber design can only be a compromise, providing good beadlock with thick beads but reduced beadlock with thin beads.
The combination of a relatively heavy rubber material combined with a fixed width was not an acceptable compromise in the design brief for Runflat CBR.
Instead, a new flexible cantilever design was developed to provide strong lateral beadlock force when tightened on to the wheel. This force increases with vehicle weight when running flat, introducing CBR´s “Active Beadlock” technology. Additionally, to ensure optimum beadlock force is applied regardless of tyre make, tyre bead or wheel tolerance, all CBR models include a width adjustability feature.
